This headline popped up on my facebook feed this morning - not sure where it came from but it landed with me for a reason. For many years, I have tried to be Wonder Woman; creating, fixing, making, soothing, organising, booking, cuddling, arranging...... and guess what? I have recently realised that I am no longer able to be that person, nor do I need to be! I am wonderful, yes - but I don't need to be all things to all people. The rest of the saying goes......... "it's a state of mind." You are probably suffering from the same delusion, if not all the time at least sometimes. So many of my friends complain of being time poor, not having time to do the things they want to do, or catch up with the people they really care about. There is pressure on all of us, particularly us women, to be everything to everyone. What are we trying to prove?? I was told recently to "be kind to yourself" and I am saying the same to you. Take some time for you, to read, chat, drink coffee (or wine) with a friend, hug your children or grandchildren, take a moment to spend some quality time with your "significant other", and you will be rewarded immensely - I know because I now am trying to do it. I have always wanted to change the world, but I know realise that I can change my immediate enviroment with a whole lot less effort, and that will ripple out.
Les and I are about to leave home for 14 weeks in the south of France, living in an apartment in a little agricultural village called Olonzac, which we totally fell in love with a couple of years ago. The pace of life is slow, the environment is gorgeous, the food and wine is right at our doorstep with markets each week selling fresh produce from the producers, the Pyrenees are a short drive away and my French will be a whole lot better when I get back! I will be blogging from there in the hope that I can entice you to daydream, to find somewhere you love to be and to make some time to be there, whether it's across the oceans or just down the back of your garden. Make it your special place - and take time out there regularly to recharge (even if it's only reading about it!)
I will also be sharing experiences, recipes, adventures so follow me on our adventure.
