Living Life Gently?

July 10, 2018

For a long time now, I have had people asking when I am going to "blog" again. It's a time thing, you understand. Then I realized that it is something I really want to do. I love writing but life gets in the way. So just to warm up, I am recreating here one of the pieces I wrote some time ago - and hopefully you won't remember it!  I read a saying attributed to Buddha - "In the end, only three things matter; how much you are loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things that are not meant for you." It seems that I don't learn this lesson easily. It needs something to hit me over the head. When I contemplate my self, I realise that there is no discussion about how much I am loved. That warm feeling that I have when I have family and good friends around me, lets me know that that piece is very firmly in place. How gently I live? Now, that is a challenge. Some of us just weren't made for living gently. I am more of the type that will yell "Yahoo, here I am at the end of my life. What a ride!!" But above all, the "letting go of things not meant for you" is the biggest challenge of all. What is it that really spins your wheel, makes you smile, gives your day purpose? Isn't it those things that you should fill your life with? Of course, being an ex-nurse, I am of the mould that everything must be fixed, and probably by me. I have a very low tolerance of procrastination. I want it done today! That is great in some areas, but it also leads to a high stress level that is not good for Old Girls like me. Every now and then, my body shuts me down briefly - "OK, girl, if you aren't going to take the gentle hints, try this!" Then it's time to take stock, and give some of the pressing deadlines the flick. That creates space to put in the things that you love, or that really matter
